Subject Numbers Regarding Health Provider Authorizations
Authorization No. 241458-9W
February 22, 2018
Pursuant to Workers' Compensation Law Section 13-d(4), the Chair of the New York State Workers' Compensation Board has exercised her authority to temporarily suspend Dr. Taseer Cheema’s authorization to treat injured workers within the New York State workers’ compensation system effective February 22, 2018. Dr. Cheema's last known business address is:
41 A Level Acres Drive
Horseheads, New York 14845
The Chair’s designee’s investigation has revealed that the New York State Department of Health, State Board for Professional Medical Conduct (BPMC) has issued Order # 18-025, wherein Dr. Cheema agreed not to contest the allegations, including that he failed, on multiple occasions, to obtain and/or document obtaining all appropriate testing and/or laboratory monitoring for a patient, that he failed, on multiple occasions, to appropriately evaluate and/or document evaluating a patient’s symptoms and condition, and that he failed to adequately examine a patient in that he failed to obtain and/or document obtaining an appropriate cardiac consultation, despite medical indications. This resulted in a Censure and Reprimand, and a 36-month probationary period, during which Dr. Cheema must participate in a Clinical Competency Assessment (CCA), he may practice medicine only when monitored by a licensed physician, board certified in an appropriate specialty (“Practice Monitor”), and during which he must successfully complete a continuing education program subject to the Director of OPMC’s prior written approval.
Therefore, the Chair believes that Dr. Cheema may be guilty of misconduct, and that such misconduct would detrimentally affect the quality of care provided to injured workers. Dr. Cheema is prohibited from rendering treatment and care to injured workers while his authorization is temporarily suspended. Reports submitted by Dr. Cheema for services rendered prior to February 22, 2018, are valid but are invalid for any services rendered on or after that date. Requests to cross-examine Dr. Cheema for services rendered prior to February 22, 2018, should not be denied due to the suspension of his authorization.
This suspension remains in effect until further notice. Any questions regarding the authorized lists should be referred to the Medical Director’s Office at 1 (800) 781-2362.
